Dr. Anna Lim is a lecturer in Deaf studies at Boston University Wheelock College of Education and Human Development, where she teaches various topics in deaf studies and Deaf education including the dynamics of diversity, oppression, and social justice in deaf communities and sign language structure. Her research interests encompass multilingualism of deaf people of color, raciolinguistics, and cognitive linguistics in Tagalog heritage language acquisition and learning.<\/p>\n
As a doctoral student in the Language & Literacy Education program at Boston University, Dr. Lim’s dissertation focused on the manifestations and ramifications of raciolinguistic ideologies in the experiences of immigrant deaf students of color in the US Deaf Education system. She was also a research assistant at Dr. Amy Lieberman’s Language Acquisition & Visual Attention Lab (LAVA Lab) and Dr. Naomi Caselli’s LexLab, where she continues to work on filling a critical gap in assessment of ASL vocabulary development in young deaf children. For this work, she received the Student Impact Award at the 4th International Conference on Sign Language Acquisition.<\/p>\n
Before joining BU, she was an elementary social studies teacher at the Southeast Asian School for the Deaf, an ESL instructor at Gallaudet University\u2019s English Language Institute, a private Japanese language tutor, and a research assistant at SLAAASh Lab focusing on ASL SignBank.<\/p>\n
