He has a secondary appointment in the College of Arts &amp; Science in the Physics Department. His work <\/span><span> focuses on science education in high-need school districts. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Dr. Garik is the BU co-investigator and partner in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globe.gov\/web\/mission-earth\">GLOBE Mission Earth Project<\/a>, a collaboration of multiple universities funded by a grant from <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/learners\">NASA\u2019s Science Activation (SciAct) Program<\/a> to engage teachers and students in project-based learning with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globe.gov\">GLOBE Protocols<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/mynasadata.larc.nasa.gov\/\">NASA learning assets<\/a>. He is also a principal instructor in the BU Learning Assistant Program and one of the initiators of the Improving Teaching of Physics (ITOP) Program for in-service physics teachers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>With collaborators at BU, Dr. Garik has been working in the high-need Providence Public School District to improve science teaching in grades K-12 since 2015. He is the PI for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/noyce\/math\/\">Physical Science Urban Noyce Scholars (PSUNS) Project<\/a>, funded by the NSF Noyce Program, and works with pre-service <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/noyce\/\">Robert Noyce Scholars<\/a>.
