We encourage all our students, staff, faculty, and alumni to come together as a community and engage with each other to do the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cultivate mutual respect and a sense of belonging<\/li>\n<li>Support marginalized faculty, staff, and students, whose experiences enhance learning, research, and partnerships<\/li>\n<li>Advocate for systemic, structural changes through radically honest self-reflection<\/li>\n<li>Empower agency within ourselves, each other, and community partners to address privileges and inequities in education and human development (such as race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, hearing status, and socioeconomic status, among other factors)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We can all be catalysts for change. This means working together to leverage power and privilege to disrupt historical and ongoing oppressive systems. These groups build a sense of community and belonging\u2014and offer students the chance to meet others who may understand their culture, background, or area of study.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re interested in joining one of our affinity groups, email the contacts listed below to get started.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">AAPI Affinity Group<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><br \/>\n<span>This is an affinity group for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) and Asian international students at BU Wheelock. Hosts the monthly &#8220;First Fridays&#8221; event.<\/p>\n<p>Faculty contacts: <a href=\"mailto:dyjacks@bu.edu\">Davena Jackson<\/a> and <a href=\"mailto:gbenoit1@bu.edu\">Greg Benoit<\/a><\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Counselors of Color in Training Organization (COCITO)<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Counselors of Color in Training Organization (COCITO) seeks to be an important space for diversity and inclusion by creating a foundation that focuses on supporting underrepresented students within the counseling psychology master\u2019s and doctoral programs at BU Wheelock. The organization aims to create opportunities to work on skills, advocate for mental health needs in communities of color, and create avenues to network with underrepresented leaders in the field. COCITO further strives to create a supportive and nurturing student experience that promotes a sense of community and well-being while pursuing graduate training.<\/p>\n<p>Faculty advisors: <a href=\"mailto:dadelabu@bu.edu\">Detris Adelabu<\/a> and <a href=\"mailto:gkim15@bu.edu\">Grace Kim<\/a><\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">2SLGBTQ+ Affinity Group<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><br \/>\nThe 2SLGBTQ+ Affinity Group is open to any graduate students who identify outside the strict cisgenders and heterosexuality, including folks who are Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, aromantic, and so on.
