Through the Social Studies Education program at BU\u2019s Wheelock College of Education & Human Development, social studies educators gain the theoretical and practical background they need to teach history, sociology, anthropology, and other social studies effectively. Students are prepared to become intellectual, reflective practitioners committed to working in urban and suburban schools with diverse student populations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Students in the Social Studies Education program learn how to teach media literacy, promote civic engagement, develop historical literacy, conduct research, and deepen their content knowledge in social studies fields. The program is committed to teaching for social justice and disrupting inequality based in white supremacy, anti-Blackness, cis-heteronormative patriarchy, ableism, and dominant English monolingualism. It emphasizes teaching through inquiry, implementing a multicultural social studies curriculum, and working for social justice. As a student, you will have the opportunity for authentic experiences working in schools and social studies classrooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BU Wheelock\u2019s Social Studies Education program has three degree and certificate options: a Master of Education (EdM), a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS).
