Daniela Ramirez, a graduate student in BU Wheelock\u2019s Child Life & Family-Centered Care program, has been awarded an Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) Diversity Scholarship. The $5,000 award supports students from diverse backgrounds who are uniquely qualified to work with diverse populations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ramirez, who is a master\u2019s candidate, is part of BU Wheelock\u2019s 4+1 undergraduate studies to graduate program linkage program. She was introduced to BU Wheelock by a former high school teacher who was also a graduate of historic Wheelock College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Ramirez, who is balancing both full-time work and graduate studies, the award will help her meet her educational and professional goals. \u201cBeing a full-time student and completing a full-time internship made it difficult to work the hours I usually work to pay for my studies,\u201d she says. \u201cReceiving the ACLP Diversity Scholarship allows me to work fewer hours and dedicate more time to my aspiration of becoming a certified child life specialist.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDaniela is one of the top students in our program,\u201d explains Claire White, senior lecturer and program director. \u201cShe is dedicated and passionate about supporting children and families.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ramirez, who will graduate in May 2021, completed a Child Life internship at Boston Children\u2019s Hospital and is now interning at Massachusetts General Hospital for Children. She hopes to bring the field of Child Life to hospitals and communities not currently served by the profession when she finishes her degree.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
