Tashnuva Shaheen is a doctoral student in educational studies with a concentration in special education at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. Broadly, her research is centered on strategies to prepare and retain effective special and general education teachers for students with disabilities. She previously held positions as a fifth- and sixth-grade ELA teacher and grade 6–8 reading specialist in Brooklyn, NY.

Tashnuva's current research interest is exploring special education teacher preparation and the special education teacher workforce, including examining the differences between traditional preparation programs vs alternative certification routes and what makes a special education teacher candidate self-efficacious to enter and stay within the special education workforce.
