Reggie Jean

Director, Upward Bound & Upward Bound Math/Science

As director of Boston University Upward Bound (UB), Reggie Jean oversees the Upward Bound program,  a federally funded TRIO college preparatory program for potential first-generation college and low-income Boston Public High School students. The program serves 86 students who are recruited from either one of four target high schools or one of five target neighborhoods in Boston. The high schools served are Brighton High School, The English High School, Community Academy of Science and Health, and Snowden International High School at Copley. The target neighborhoods are Dorchester, East Boston, Hyde Park, Mattapan, and Roxbury.

Mr. Jean began a connection with Upward Bound as a tutor with UB during the summer of 1994. He served as a tutor for two years until he earned his degree and became a teacher, returning each summer to work with UB. He became a full-time UB staff member in 2001. Mr. Jean was president of the Wheelock Graduate Student Association, the New England Educational Opportunity Association (NEOA) in 2011 and has served on several committees within NEOA since 2002. In addition to having served on advisory committees with MEFA and the College Board, he is also a past-president of the Massachusetts Educational Opportunity Association.
