
Brenda Lopez De La Cruz
Program Manager
As program manager for Boston University Upward Bound (UB), Brenda Lopez De La Cruz provides college advising and other preparatory services to first-generation and low-income Boston Public high school students bound for postsecondary education. As a part of the UB team, she designs individualized program services, leads a yearlong senior workshop designed to educate students on financial literacy and college success strategies, and supports the summer residential component of the College Access program.
Before joining the team at Boston University UB, Ms. De La Cruz was a multilingual learner specialist and English teacher for middle school students where she worked with newcomer students in the Dorchester and Chelsea communities. Ms. De La Cruz has always been passionate about serving first-generation low-income students and supporting their transition into higher education, and began her involvement in TRIO programs as a participant herself in the Educational Opportunity Program of her undergraduate institution. She is currently working on her EdM in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies at Boston University.
