Recently, graduates of the BU Wheelock Child Life and Family-Centered Care program joined faculty in a virtual pinning ceremony in celebration of their time at BU Wheelock. The ceremony was held just prior to this year’s Commencement Weekend at BU.

The new graduates were Jessica Connolly, Julia D’Onofrio, Abby Guelli, Zariah Lima, Christina Listernick, Darian Parker, Daniela Ramirez, and Alyssa Sachs.  They are the last group of BU Wheelock students to have begun their studies as undergraduates at historic Wheelock College, before the 2018 merger with BU.

“This is a very special cohort,” says Claire White, senior lecturer, and program director. “Throughout many changes during their studies—including a global pandemic—they remained enthusiastic, positive, and flexible in order to support the children and families in healthcare settings that they were working with.”

Several of the graduates shared their thoughts on their experience at BU Wheelock.

Julia D’Onofrio: “The faculty truly lead with compassion throughout the program and have inspired me to always do the same as I embark on my career with children and families.”

Christina Listernick: “The BU Wheelock Child Life Program is a supportive community that enhances our ability to serve patients and families and inspire a world of good.”

Zariah Lima: “This program was an eye-opening experience for me. I learned so much about myself and the work that we can do for children and families.”

Daniela Ramirez: “Every member of the Child Life Program, including faculty, professors, and my peers, have supported me in my journey as an aspiring child life specialist. The program has allowed me to participate in amazing opportunities, take classes that are taught by passionate professors, and have the best internship experiences.”
